Introduction to Tushanwan Hall: Tushanwan Hall uses pictures and cultural relics to vividly show the life and learning of the Tushanwan orphans at that time. In 1855, the Catholic Church established an orphanage in Hengtang, Qingpu. In 1860, to avoid war, the orphans were fostered in Dongjiadu, Hunan. In 1864, the Catholic Jesuits established an orphanage in Tujiawan. The Tushanwan Orphanage was established nearly a hundred years ago. The Jesuits founded the Tushanwan Orphan Craft Institute and established departments such as the painting gallery, carpentry department, press, hardware department, and machinery department. While Catholicism was preaching, it also introduced and taught various Western techniques. These techniques were integrated with traditional Chinese crafts, cultivating and bringing up a generation of arts and crafts talents. Ren Bonian, Liu Haisu, and Xu Beihong all taught here.
