Introduction to Borobudur in Indonesia: Borobudur means "Pagoda on the hill", also known as "Altar of Thousand Buddhas". Borobudur in Indonesia was built in the 8th to 9th century AD. The altar is solid, square on the outside and round on the inside. It is composed of 9 layers of vertebral bodies in the shape of steps. It is exquisitely designed, complex in composition, and magnificent. There are 2,700 stone reliefs of Buddhist stories on the altar, which are so exquisite that they are known as "the epic on the stone." Borobudur is one of the largest Buddhist buildings in the world. It is one of the four wonders of the East along with the Great Wall of China, the Pyramids of Egypt, and Angkor Wat in Cambodia.
