Introduction to the expansion site: In the early 14th century, Siena prepared to expand the church. The original main hall was turned into an auricular hall, and a larger nave was built in the middle of the church. However, due to the great plague in 1348, the small town declined. The expansion project was discontinued, but the remains remain today.
