Introduction to Alexander Nevsky Church: The foundation stone of Alexander Nevsky Memorial Church was laid in 1882, and the main body was completed from 1904 to 1912 to commemorate the Russian-Turkish War of 1877-1878 Russian soldiers who died fighting for Bulgaria's liberation from Ottoman rule. It is the most famous landmark building in Sofia, covering an area of 3170 square meters and can accommodate 10,000 people. It is the second largest cathedral in the Balkan Peninsula after Saint Sava Church in Belgrade. The central golden dome of the church is 45 meters high and the bell tower is 53 meters high. There are 12 bells with a total weight of 23 tons. The heaviest one weighs 12 tons and the lightest one weighs 10 kilograms.
