Introduction to the Student Activity Center: Old Union is the student activity center of Stanford University. It was built in the early 20th century due to the proposal of Herbert Hoover, the then US President. At first, the Old Union was used as a place for student gatherings, activities, and entertainment. It contained a small auditorium, restaurant, library, etc. For a time, part of the building was requisitioned for school administrative offices. Currently, all buildings have returned to their original functions and are open to students.
