Flagpole introduction: The main means of transportation in Mingyue Bay is boats. In order to enable boats sailing at night to return to the village safely and avoid getting lost in Taihu Lake, villagers have erected tall flagpoles at the entrance of the village since the Southern Song Dynasty. A red lantern is hung on it, and the oil lamp inside is lit at night to guide passing ships. The original flagpole was cut down by the Japanese army in 1939 and was re-erected in 2005.
