Introduction to the Hanwu Stele Pavilion: The Hanwu Stele Pavilion is nestled among the green pines and cypresses on the left side of the avenue. Two inscriptions related to Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty are placed in it.
Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty was a prosperous monarch with great talents and great strategies in Chinese history, but he also liked Qin Shihuang to seek immortality and elixirs in order to achieve immortality. At the suggestion of the New Taiyang alchemist Li Fuqiu, he came to Lianhua Mountain to refine elixirs and learn Taoism. He also ordered the construction of a palace on the mountain, which is why Lianhua Mountain was also called Gongshan in ancient times.
The left stele among the two stele is commonly known as the ringing stele. It has a history of more than 2,000 years and is the earliest existing stele on Lianhua Mountain. It is said that knocking on the stele can attract five hundred divine bees in the mountain, which will be visited by future generations. Frequent knocking for verification resulted in these round depressions of varying sizes left on the stele; the leading stele on the right has a history of more than 700 years and was erected by Xu Bin, a Xintaiyang exile and a lieutenant in Macheng County, Hubei Province. It is the oldest existing stele on Lianhua Mountain. The highest-standard Yitong stele, due to man-made reasons during the Cultural Revolution, only the upper half remains.
