Introduction to Taihe City Ruins: Nanzhao, which arose in Weishan Mountain, unified the Five Zhaos in the twenty-sixth year of Kaiyuan (738 AD) with the support of the Tang Dynasty. In the same year, Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty conferred the title of "King of Yunnan" on Nanzhao King Pi Luoge, which marked the establishment of the Nanzhao Kingdom. Previously, there were many small tribes around Erhai Lake, which were known as "Western Erhe Barbarians" in history. In order to resist the invasion of other tribes, they built some cities along the Erhai Lake, the largest of which was Taihe City. One year before the unification of the Five Zhaos (737 AD), Nanzhao annexed some "Xi'er River Barbarians" and occupied Taihe City. In 739 AD, Nanzhao moved its capital from Weishan to Taihe City. The word "harmony" in Taihe City means hillside in Yi language, so Taihe City means a city built on a hillside.
