Introduction to the Freedom Bridge: Before the opening of the Unification Bridge in 1998, the Freedom Bridge was the only bridge in South Korea that could cross the Imjin River. After the armistice agreement was signed in 1953, more than 13,000 Korean prisoners of war returned home through this bridge. When they passed the bridge, they shouted "Long live freedom". From then on, people called this bridge the "Bridge of Freedom." Now, the middle of the bridge is still separated by barbed wire, making it impossible to use the bridge.
