Introduction to Thimphu Taking Zoo: Taking is a Himalayan takin and is the national animal of Bhutan. It is also an endangered protected animal and is only found in small numbers in Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar and China. Legend has it that the mad sage Lama Drukakkula of Bhutan created Tajim from the bones of sheep and cattle. Today, Thimphu Zoo has become the best place to see Tarkin. In addition to takin, many deer species including reindeer and mountain Qiang are also raised here. Visitors can admire the bull-headed and sheep-body Tarkin through the fence.
