Introduction to Jacob the Younger: The son of Alphaeus and Mary, commonly known as Jacob the Younger, to distinguish him from Jacob, the son of Apedea, was the first bishop of Jerusalem. In 39 AD, he worked with Peter. Together they received Paul in Jerusalem upon his return from Damascus. In 49 AD, as the bishop of Jerusalem, he presided over a religious meeting with Peter. In 58 AD, he received Paul in Jerusalem after his third missionary return. He was pushed down into the valley of Kezeron, stoned to death, and buried near the temple.
