Introduction to the old Romanesque church: The Old Cathedral of Salamanca is located near the Grand River Gate. Its original name is the Cathedral of Santa Maria. The reason why it is known as the old cathedral is to distinguish it from the old cathedral three centuries later. The new cathedral was built next to it. It was built in 1110. It is an ancient Roman-style building. It is thick and solid and looks very much like a castle fortress. The top of the church is an octagonal roof with an oriental-style cockcrow tower. Four turrets extend from both sides of the base, and a Byzantine-style vault rises high. The old cathedral is famous for its moving architecture and decoration. Among them, the Vera chapel has the most creative architectural concept. Its round arch is composed of 8 semi-circular arches arranged in pairs. The cathedral was also used as a church school building.
