Introduction to the Cross: In 1979, Pope Paul II came here to preach. At that time, nearly one-third of the country’s population (about 1 million people) went to pay homage and listen to the sermon. In the same year, the Irish government erected a huge cross in the center of the park to commemorate this major religious event.
