Roman Theater Introduction: The Roman Theater (El teatro romano) in Merida was built in 16th and 15th BC. It could accommodate 6,000 spectators at that time and was the most magnificent amphitheater in Spain. The seats in the theater are divided into three levels. Visitors can see the social class of the Romans living in Merida from the audience's choice of seats. In front of the stepped seats is a semicircular music stage, and behind the stage are two rows. Marble colonnade, with some outbuildings at the back used by actors. The Roman Theater has now become a symbol of Merida and is the most visited tourist site.
