Introduction to the Pont de Marie: Le Pont de Marie was built in the early 17th century during the Louis XIII era, at the beginning of the urbanization of Saint-Louis Island. At that time, three bridges were built on Saint-Louis Island: the Saint-Louis Bridge connected West Iron Island, Tournai Bridge connects the left bank and Marie Bridge connects the right bank. Marie Bridge was named after Christophe Marie, an entrepreneur who fought hard to build the bridge. After years of debate, construction of the bridge began in 1614, but it was not completed until 21 years later.
