Introduction to the Pool of Ceres: The Pool of Ceres is square in shape and was designed by Thomas Regnaudin between 1672 and 1679 based on Charles Le Brun's sketches. Ceres, the Roman goddess of the harvest, sits on a heap of grain, surrounded by cornflowers and roses. The Pool of Ceres is a symbol of summer and forms a complete whole with the other three pools representing the seasons - the Pool of Bacchus, the Pool of Flora and the Pool of Saturn.
