Introduction to Grand Duke Gediminas: The sculpture of Gediminas stands near the city center. He was the creator of the city and the ruler of Lithuania in the 14th century. On the top of the sculpture are the archduke holding a sword and a horse, and on the granite base at his feet is the stone wolf he dreamed of. There are also two figures engraved on the granite base, said to be statues of Algirdas and Jogailla, the two successors of the Grand Duke. The bronze used for the sculpture was made from weapons captured by the Lithuanian border guards, the granite for the base was a gift from Ukraine, and the statue itself was cast in Tallinn free of charge.
