Introduction to the Chagall Stained Glass Window: The Chagall Stained Glass Window, located on the east side of the public foyer, was a gift from United Nations staff and Marc Chagall himself in 1964 to commemorate the second term of the United Nations Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld and 15 other people who died with him in the 1961 plane crash. The memorial is about 15 feet wide and 12 feet high. It contains some symbols of peace and love, such as a child in the middle of the picture being kissed by an angelic-faced person emerging from a sea of flowers. Maternal love is depicted on the left, bottom and top. and those who strive for peace.
