Introduction to Holy Cross Church: Holy Cross Church (Kosciol sw. Krzyza) is located slightly north of Krakow's suburban street opposite the Copernicus statue. A large amount of gold and silver is used in the church building, and the atmosphere is very solemn. Inside the church Chopin's heart was buried under the stone pillar in front of the left hand of the main church. Chopin's wish during his lifetime was to be buried in Warsaw, but the Tsarist authorities refused to allow his body to return to the country. Only his heart returned to the country and was buried anonymously in the Holy Cross Church until 1918 in Poland. The monument was erected only after independence.
