Introduction to Alpine Glaciers: The reserve is located in the western section of the Zhongtian Mountains, on the south bank of the middle reaches of the Great Gilgelang River, a tributary of the Ili River. There are alpine glaciers originating from the Nalati Mountains in the south, and three main glaciers in the lower part of the snow belt. The river has formed three major valley systems that are basically parallel and running north-south. The valleys are deeply cut and have steep slopes.
