Introduction to Li Keran: Li Keran (1907-1989), a native of Xuzhou, Jiangsu, is a modern painter. In his early years, he adopted the Eight Great Methods of landscape painting, and his brushwork was simple and smooth. Later, he studied painting from Qi Baishi, and his brushwork became more concise. He also learned the method of accumulating ink from Huang Binhong, and in his sketching, he understood Lin Fengmian's method of handling shadows that are bright in front and dark in back in landscape paintings. His painting style became more rigorous, his pen and ink became thicker, and in his later years, his brushwork became more sophisticated. He is also good at painting cows, and his pen and ink are quite clumsy. He once served as a professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts and vice chairman of the Chinese Artists Association.
