Introduction to the third cave: This cave is the largest cave in the Yungang Grottoes. The broken wall in front is about 25 meters high and is said to be the Tan Yao Sutra Translation Tower. The cave is divided into front and back chambers. A Maitreya cave chamber is cut out in the middle of the upper part of the front chamber, and a pair of three-story square towers are cut out on the left and right. On the south and west side of the back room, there are three statues carved with round faces, plump muscles, fine flower crowns and smooth clothing lines. The seated Buddha is about 10 meters high, and the two standing Bodhisattva statues are each 6.2 meters high. Judging from the style and carving techniques of these three statues, they may have been carved in the early Tang Dynasty (seventh century AD).
