Fujian Kaoting Academy Travel Guide
Jianyang City

Scenic spot introduction:

Kaoting Academy is where Zhu Xi, a Neo-Confucian scholar of the Southern Song Dynasty, lived and gave lectures in his later years. It is located in Kaoting Village, Jianyang City, 2.5 kilometers away from the county seat. The academy is backed by green mountains, surrounded by water on three sides, and has a quiet scenery. In the third year of Song Shaoxi's reign (AD 1192), Zhu Xi inherited his father's ambition to build the "Bamboo Forest Jingshe", which was later renamed "Cangzhou Jingshe". In the Song Dynasty, students from all over the world traveled thousands of miles to study in Kaoting. They gathered all the talents and formed the "Kaoting School" with great influence in academic history. In the fourth year of Chunyou (AD 1244), it was designated as Kaoting Academy, and Emperor Lizong Zhao Yun wrote a plaque praising it.
