Fuzhou Changle Minjiang Estuary National Wetland Park has been rated as one of the "Top Ten Most Beautiful Wetlands in China". It is currently the largest wetland in Fujian Province and an important stopover for migratory birds in the Asia-Pacific region. The Minjiang River Estuary Wetland has a superior natural environment, rich biodiversity, and many rare species. It has 1,084 species of animals and plants. More than 50,000 waterbirds migrate here, including the Black Bird, which is called the "mythical bird" by scholars. The billed crested tern is an extremely endangered bird species, with less than 50 found worldwide.
The national nature reserve built with the Minjiang River Estuary Wetland as the core has also become the transition zone between the cold arctic flora and the paleotropical flora, the Oriental Boundary South China Zone, the Fujian-Guangzhou Coastal Subzone, the Fujian Coastal Zone, and the Coastal Zone. The Minjiang River Estuary National Wetland Park is located at the mouth of the Minjiang River in Tantou, Meihua Town, Changle, with a total area of ​​2,100 hectares and a core area of ​​877.2 hectares. The park consists of five scenic areas, including the natural wetland conservation area, wetland ecological breeding area, wetland ecological agriculture park, wetland cultural street and wetland sightseeing park. It also has a Minjiang River Estuary Wetland Museum and an ancient banyan commercial street. Visitors can see 141 species of vascular plants, 54 species of nationally protected wild animals, and 7 types of wetlands including estuary waters, intertidal beaches, and mangrove swamps.
