Labrang Monastery It is one of the six major monasteries of the Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism. The monastery was first built during the reign of Emperor Kangxi of Qing Dynasty (1709) and has a history of nearly 300 years. Six scripture halls have been built in the monastery, and it retains the best Tibetan Buddhist teaching system in the country. It is the political and religious center of the Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism in Gannan area and the highest Buddhist institution in Northwest China. Pilgrims visit it all year round.
