During the Xianhe period of the Eastern Jin Dynasty (326-334), Ge Hong went to Luofu Mountain and founded four Taoist temples, including Baihe, Duxu, Guqing and Sulao. During the Northern and Southern Dynasties, Xiao Yu introduced Buddhism to Luofu Mountain. During its heyday, there were 9 temples, 18 temples and 22 nunneries on Luofu Mountain. Among them, the more influential Taoist temples include Chongxu, Baihe, Huanglong, Jiutian and Sulao; Buddhist temples include Huashou, Mingyue, Longhua, Baoji and Yanxiang, so it is known as the "immortal cave".
