Scenic spot introduction:

Qilishantang was first built in 825 AD and has a history of 1,179 years. It starts from Changmen, "a place of wealth and elegance in the world", in the east and ends at Tiger Hill, "the first scenic spot in Wuzhong", in the west. It is 3,600 meters long. Since its construction, it has become a tourist destination with its beautiful water scenery. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it was the street block with the most densely populated and diverse scenic spots and historical sites in my country.

Shantang Street is located in the northwest of the ancient city of Suzhou. In the first year of the Baoli period of the Tang Dynasty (825), the great poet Bai Juyi came to Suzhou as a governor. In order to facilitate Suzhou citizens to visit Tiger Hill, he organized migrant workers to dredge the Shantang River and expand the river embankment to provide transportation for horses and carriages. Since then, Shantang Street, which has both transportation and tourism functions, has stretched between the urban area and Tiger Hill. In order to thank this great poet for his contributions to the benefit of the people, the people of Suzhou called Shantang Street "Baigong Dike".
During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, as capitalism sprouted in China, Suzhou gradually became the economic center of southeast my country, "one of the largest cities in the world at that time", and Shantang, as the main road connecting Suzhou City and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, also became the most prosperous commercial center in Suzhou, known as "the first street in China". The "Prosperous Suzhou" by the painter Xu Yang during the Qianlong period vividly reproduced the prosperous market of Suzhou at that time. In modern times, Shantang Street has been gradually lost to history and lost its historical prosperity. After the new century, in 2002, in order to protect the historical and cultural heritage of Shantang and restore its prosperity, the Suzhou Municipal Government, under the discussion of experts, built Shantang into a tourist attraction that showcases the essence of Wu culture. The street was officially opened on September 30, 2004, and appeared in front of the world with a brand new look.
