Jing'an Temple is the only revival of Eastern Esoteric Buddhism in China, the first national Buddhist organization site, and a famous Shingon sect temple in Shanghai. Jing'an Temple is quiet in the bustling city, and Jing'an District is famous for Jing'an Temple. Jing'an Temple was originally named Chongyuan Temple and Chongyun Temple, and was renamed Yongtai Zen Temple in the Tang Dynasty. It was named Jing'an Temple in the first year of Dazhong Yangfu in the Northern Song Dynasty (1008). It was originally located on the north bank of Wusong River. Due to the flooding of the river tide, the temple foundation was endangered. In the ninth year of Jiading in the Southern Song Dynasty (1216), it was moved to the bank of Feijing Bay in Lupu (now Nanjing West Road). After the Yuan and Ming Dynasties, it was repeatedly repaired and destroyed. The existing building was rebuilt in the sixth year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty (1880).
