Scenic spot introduction:
Minsk Carrier World was built based on the former Soviet Union's retired aircraft carrier "Minsk". It is currently the first large-scale military theme park in China and even in the world with an aircraft carrier as its main body.Attractions distribution:
Minsk Aircraft Carrier World is located on the Shatoujiao seaside in Shenzhen, adjacent to the famous Sino-British Street. It is a new experiential military theme park with the theme of "experiencing aircraft carriers, getting close to the ocean, and having a happy military port", integrating tourism, science education, and national defense education. The Minsk aircraft carrier has a displacement of 40,500 tons, uses four steam turbines, has a speed of 32 knots, a cruising range of 4,000 to 13,500 nautical miles, and a crew of more than 2,000 people. The ship carries 12 Yak-38 vertical take-off and landing fighters and 19 Ka-27 anti-submarine helicopters. The former can seize local air superiority and can be equipped with AA-8, AS-17 and other air combat and ground/sea attack weapons, while the latter can fully attack US nuclear submarines to ensure the safety of the aircraft carrier and the fleet.
The Minsk is structured half like an aircraft carrier and half like a cruiser: while Western aircraft carriers are desperately trying to leave room on their decks for carrier-based aircraft, the Minsk occupies 40% of the deck space and is equipped with weapons such as SS-N-12 cruise missiles, SA-N-4 air defense missiles, SS-N-14 anti-submarine missiles, and twin 76mm naval guns that should have been equipped on other ships.
The Minsk aircraft carrier is the second of the former Soviet Union's Kiev-class medium-sized aircraft carriers. It was commissioned in 1978 and transferred to the Pacific Fleet in 1979, ending the former Soviet Union's history of having no large battleships in the Far East. After the disintegration of the Soviet Union, the Minsk aircraft carrier gradually declined due to the loss of logistical support. On October 22, 1995, the Minsk and Novorossiysk were towed out of the Vladivostok harbor by several tugboats, and many Russian sailors shed sad tears. South Korean defense departments and US intelligence officials carefully analyzed its secrets. Although the Russian military dismantled or blew up the weapons and electronic systems at the beginning of delivery, the remaining technical ideas still surprised both South Korea and the United States. Under Russia's repeated urging, the Novorossiysk aircraft carrier became scrap metal under the Korean welding gun; but South Korea tried to revive the Minsk and realize its "aircraft carrier dream" ahead of time. The Asian financial crisis in 1997 made the Minsk a burden to South Korea, and it was later sold to a Chinese company at a low price of US$5.3 million. It arrived at Shatin Port in Dongguan, Guangdong in September 1998. After a closed large-scale repair and renovation in August 1999, it sailed to Shenzhen Dapeng Bay with a brand new look on May 9, 2000, becoming one of the few large military theme parks in the world that was converted from a 40,000-ton aircraft carrier.
