Arashiyama is a famous scenic spot in Kyoto and is known as "the number one scenic spot in Kyoto". Arashiyama is 375 meters high. The mountain is gentle and lies quietly under the dense green trees. According to the Chinese characters, this is a mountain shrouded in mist. Nowadays, this scenic spot has become a memorial place for the friendship between the people of China and Japan because of the poem monument of Premier Zhou Enlai. The Sagano Romantic Train (Sagano Torokko Train) is a railway built from Arashiyama to Kameoka, closely following the steep gorge of the Hozu River. When weather permits, the train will have open-air carriages. This train journey is usually combined with a package tour. From Torokko Saga Station (the same building as JR Saga Arashiyama Station) to Torokko Kameoka Station, the one-way journey takes about 25 minutes and costs 600 yen. Trains run from March 1 to December 29, excluding Wednesdays (except on Wednesdays during spring break or summer vacation, as well as during Golden Week, maple season, and national holidays on Wednesdays).

How to get there:

1. Depart from Kawaramachi or Karasuma Station in central Kyoto (Shijo-dori), take the Hankyu Main Line to Katsura Station, and then transfer to the Hankyu Arashiyama Line to Arashiyama. The one-way trip takes about 20 minutes and costs 220 yen. Hankyu Arashiyama Station is located on the other side of the river, about a 5-10 minute walk from central Arashiyama.

2. The most convenient transportation method from Kyoto Station to Arashiyama is to take the JR Sagano Line (also known as the JR Sanin Main Line). The one-way journey from Kyoto Station to Saga-Arashiyama Station takes 15 minutes and costs 230 yen. It takes 5-10 minutes to walk from Saga-Arashiyama Station to central Arashiyama.
