The first mountain in Xuyi, Jiangsu is located in Xuyi County on the south bank of the Huai River. It was originally called Nanshan. Among the ten scenic spots in Xuyi, the First Mountain accounts for six: glass spring soaking in the moon, Nostalgia of the First Mountain, spring day in the Apricot Garden, auspicious dawn, the ruins of Huijing Pavilion, and the evening bell of Guishan Temple. The first mountain in Xuyi has an indissoluble bond with Mi Fu, the great calligrapher and painter of the Song Dynasty: Mi Fu (1051-1107), named Yuanzhang, was from Xiangyang. Because of his crazy behavior, he was nicknamed "Mi Dian". His calligraphy is deeply influenced by Wang Xian's style, bold and elegant, and together with Cai Yuanchang, Su Shi and Huang Tingjian, he is known as one of the "Four Calligraphers of the Song Dynasty". Mi Fu was also good at painting landscape figures, using the splash-ink technique of ink dotted with ink. Because Mi Fu loved Xuyi landscapes so much, he was immersed in them many times when he was in Lianshui and never left. His famous poem titled Ten Scenes of Xuyi has been passed down through the ages.
The First Mountain has been a famous historical and cultural mountain in Huainan since ancient times. Since the Song and Yuan Dynasties, many literati, Hanlin scholars, and government officials have come here because of its reputation, leaving a large number of inscriptions and tablets. There are 88 cliffs and 78 tablets in the mountain. Blocks: Cliffs are mainly distributed in Xiuyan, Ruiyan and Xiyu Temple; in addition to those seen in Glass Spring, the steles are mainly placed in Huaishan Hall, Cuiping Hall and Minglun Hall. The inscriptions on the First Mountain record the handwritings of famous figures and dignitaries from the Song, Yuan, Ming, Qing and the Republic of China. Its five-body calligraphy stone carving art of Zheng, Cao, Li, Seal and Xing can be regarded as a national treasure and has extremely high historical and cultural value.
