The former residence of Lei Lutai in Pingyao was built during the Daoguang period and has a history of more than 180 years. Lei Lutai, as the first shopkeeper of Rishengchang and the founder of China Bank, when he became prosperous, like northern businessmen, he carried out large-scale construction and built houses. Lei Lutai's former residence is located at No. 11 Shangximen Street in Pingyao City, Shanxi.

The entire courtyard faces north to south and is a traditional residential group consisting of two main courtyards and two bays. The main courtyard of the old residence has two front and rear entrances, and the structural layout is a sedan-pole courtyard. It is built on a high platform, with brick-carved fish patterns on the top of the gables, and a double-slope hard gable roof in the middle hall.
