Shanxi Kong Xiangxi Residence is the largest and best-preserved Qing Dynasty-style building complex in Taigu County. It is now a key cultural relic protection unit in Shanxi Province. It was built between the Qianlong and Xianfeng years of the Qing Dynasty. It was originally the old residence of the gentry Meng Guangyu. Kong Xiangxi purchased it from the Meng family when he was the Minister of Industry and Commerce and the Minister of Industry of the National Government (1930). In the 23rd year of the Republic of China (1934), Chiang Kai-shek lived in Taigu Kongzhai for a period of time; later it was occupied by the Japanese invaders and Jiang Yan's hospital, military station, and special police; after 1949, it was occupied by Taigu Normal School. Kong Xiangxi's residence is located in the southwest corner of Taigu County (near Baita Temple).

The house faces north and south, 91 meters from east to west and 69 meters from north to south, with a total area of ​​6325 square meters. There are existing main courtyard, kitchen courtyard, study courtyard, stage courtyard, Mozhuang courtyard, west garden and partially damaged east garden. It consists of multiple horizontally arranged courtyards, each of which is divided into multiple quadrangle courtyards along the central axis. Each courtyard is separated by an open corridor, a building or a hall. The main buildings all use brackets and flying rafters, which are beautiful and elegant in shape. The wooden structure is decorated with carved beams and painted beams, and is piled with gold powder, making it look like a colorful rainbow. There are hanging flower gates, Aquarius gates and octagonal or crescent gates connecting each courtyard, and the partition walls are decorated with windows of various shapes. The houses have different shapes and styles. They are elegant and pure as a whole, with exquisite and translucent details. They are wide and strong, and have appropriate shades, making them appear very harmonious.
