Jiaocheng Xuanzhong Temple Travel Guide

Scenic spot introduction:

Xuanzhong Temple in Jiaocheng is the fundamental dojo of the Pure Land Sect of Chinese Buddhism and one of the oldest existing temples in my country, with a history of more than 1,500 years. The temple is located on Shibi Mountain 10 kilometers northwest of Jiaocheng County, Shanxi Province. It is surrounded by ridges, with green peaks and rocks arching like walls, so the mountain is named "Shibi", and the temple is also called "Shibi Temple" or "Yongning Temple" because of the mountain. In the ninth year of Kaiyuan of the Tang Dynasty (721), Xuanzhong Temple emerged as a Buddhist temple and established the "Open-air Yiyi Altar", which was as famous as the "Inspiration Altar" in Chang'an, the western capital at that time, and the "Huishan Altar" in Luoyang, the eastern capital, and was collectively known as the National Three major altars. In Xuanzhong Temple, the buildings are piled up against the mountains, hidden among the mountains and cliffs. The palaces are splendid, the pavilions are magnificent, the clear springs outside the temple are green cypresses, and the bamboos in the courtyard are green, and there are thousands of scenes.

The main landscapes in Xuanzhong Temple include: Mountain Gate, Tianwang Hall, Bell and Drum Tower, Stele Pavilion, Main Hall, Seven Buddha Hall, Thousand Buddha Hall, Patriarch Hall, the remains of Northern Wei Dynasty statue stele, stele corridor, tomb tower and white Qiurong Pagoda, etc.
