Introduction to spirits: Albanian specialty spirits (Raki) are made from fruits such as grapes or plums through fermentation and double distillation. The alcohol content exceeds 40%, and some are even as high as 60%. Many families in Albania brew their own Raki, so much so that the government stipulates that any household brewing more than 100 liters must pay consumption tax. Some Albanians also drink a small glass with breakfast.
