Introduction to the Tathagata Hall and the Pavilion of Ten Thousand Buddhas: The Tathagata Hall and the Pavilion of Ten Thousand Buddhas, with one ground floor and one floor, are the largest buildings in Zhihua Temple. The Buddha Sakyamuni is worshiped downstairs, and is served by King Brahma and Vajra; the Buddha Vairochana, Lusena Buddha and Sakyamuni Buddha are worshiped upstairs. The upper and lower gables are covered with Buddhist niches, containing 9,999 small Buddhas, hence the name Ten Thousand Buddhas Pavilion. Its top caisson was lost to the United States in the 1930s.
