Reforming the Last Emperor Puyi Exhibition Introduction: On December 4, 1959, Puyi was released by the Supreme People's Court of the People's Republic of China under an amnesty order. Mao Zedong's amnesty order stated: "The prisoner has been detained for ten years. During his detention, through labor reform and ideological education, he has shown real performance in changing his evil ways and doing good. In compliance with the provisions of Article 1 of the amnesty order, he will be released." From then on, Puyi became a citizen of the People's Republic of China.
