Introduction to the Castle Corridor: In the 15th century, Pope Niccolò III successfully transformed the internal structure of Castel Sant'Angelo. He transformed the old city walls around the castle into a long corridor. The corridor cleverly connects the castle to St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican and is usually used by the pope to avoid external threats. In the 16th century AD, Charles V bloodbathed Rome, and hundreds of Roman citizens took refuge here for several months.
