General Tree Introduction: In May 1933, on the eve of the Battle of Kongshan, the Red Army cut down trees to block the road in order to prevent the Sichuan Army from invading. Li Xiannian, then political commissar of the Red 11th Division, came to the site to inspect the fortifications. At this time, a soldier was preparing to cut down a large walnut tree. Seeing this, Li Xiannian told the soldier that the walnut tree was a "money tree" for the people and should be preserved. In order to commemorate the Red Army, local people later called a century-old walnut tree preserved in front of the Kongshan Township Government the "General Tree" and the fruit was the "General Fruit".
