Introduction to the Sundial of Peking University: There is a white marble sundial (guǐ) between the Sackler Museum of Archeology and Art and the Foreign Languages Building. It is nearly 3 meters high and consists of a large base, stele body and sundial. The body of the monument is engraved with seal script inscriptions in a clockwise direction starting from the north. The inscriptions on the four sides of the inscription are: "Get all things close by", "Get all things from far away", "Look up to observe the astronomy", "Look down to observe the geography". These all reflect the astronomical and philosophical concepts of ancient Chinese people. Above the stele is a sundial, which consists of a base, a dial and a dial needle. The sundial was originally located in front of the Red Building on the beach of the old Peking University. After the Sackler Museum was built in 1992, it was moved here and the dial and needle were restored in order to harmonize with the museum in terms of content and momentum.
