Introduction to the temple gate: There are three gates on the front of the temple. The main gate in the middle is made of bronze. It is 7.48 meters high and 3.35 meters wide. It is divided into two doors and opens from the middle. There are twelve squares on it, describing the deeds of Peter and Paul. This was the idea of Ildefonso Schuster, the abbot of the Pauline seminary, and was completed by the master sculptor Antonio Maraini (1886-1963) between 1929 and 1931. The cross with silver grape branches in the center of the door is very eye-catching. The grape branches and leaves are cleverly inlaid with the busts of the Apostles and the symbols of the four holy histories (human, lion, ox, and eagle).
