Introduction to the chapel: The chapel was built as a YMCA for Lingnan School at the expense of Ambrey Schweitz, president of the Warner and Schweitz Company in Cleveland, USA (a manufacturer of machine tools and astronomical instruments). Construction started in 1915 and was completed in 1916. In memory of the donor, it was named "Huai Shi Hall". On December 21, 1923, Dr. Sun Yat-sen and his wife Soong Ching Ling visited Lingnan University and took a group photo on campus. Dr. Sun Yat-sen also gave a long speech at Huaishi Hall, encouraging young students to "determine to do great things, not to be high officials."
