Introduction to Sun Yat-sen University Library: Sun Yat-sen University Library has a total construction area of more than 110,000 square meters, with 6.02 million volumes (items) of documents and materials, and the annual growth of new books and periodicals reaches more than 170,000 items. The school has established a sizable campus network, covering four campuses and accessing nearly 50,000 computers, ranking among the top campus networks in Chinese universities.
The South Campus Library was built in 1982 with a four-story building and an area of 14,500 square meters. By 1999, it had a collection of 3.34 million books. In 1998, it was designated by the Ministry of Education as the China Academic Library and Information System (Calis for short) South China Regional Center, becoming one of the seven regional centers of China’s higher education document security system. The first floor of the library is equipped with an open-shelf library and an electronic reading room, which are used as borrowing rooms; the second floor is equipped with a graduate reading room, ancient books reading room, tool library and audio-visual room; the third floor is a reading room and self-study room, and the fourth floor is a newspaper and periodical reading room. The entire library's reading room can accommodate 1,800 people.
