Introduction to the Furaijinmon Gate: The temple’s gate, the “Furaijinmon Gate”, is the face of Japan and a symbol of Asakusa. It was built in 942 AD to pray for peace and good harvests in the world. Inside the door is a large lantern given by the industrialist Yukino Matsushita to the Asakusa Kannon in return for praying for his recovery from his illness.
