Introduction to the Hu Family Old Well: The Hu Family Old Well was dug by Hu Zhongpan, the fourth generation grandfather of Hu Yaobang, when he was building his ancestral house during the Xianfeng period of the Qing Dynasty. The old well is three feet square, about four feet deep, and is surrounded by rocks. The spring water gushes out from the bottom of the well. It is clear and sweet, and flows through all seasons. The Hu family and the surrounding folks drink it to this day. According to the memories of local elders, Hu Yaobang was thin and stuttered in his childhood, but he was sensible and loved to work. He often fetched water from this well with his brother Hu Yaofu to go home. Sometimes, the naughty Yaobang and his friends would climb camphor trees by the well and dig out bird's nests.
