Introduction to the square colonnade: Both sides of St. Peter's Square are surrounded by two groups of semicircular marble colonnades. These two groups of colonnades are composed of four rows of columns, with a total of 284 columns and 88 square columns. The column height is 19 meters. The corridor is composed of 284 tall round stone columns support the top of the corridor. On the top are 142 statues of famous saints and saints in church history. The figures in the statues have different and lifelike looks. The classical and dignified circular colonnades are harmoniously and skillfully combined, like two huge outstretched arms, guarding St. Peter's Square, making the entire church particularly magnificent and brilliant.
It is said that the square and the colonnades on both sides were designed by the famous architect and sculptor Bernini in 1656 and took 11 years to build. The marble statues on the top of the stone pillars were sculpted by Bernini and his students.
