Introduction to the Three Religions Temple: The Three Religions Temple in Gongtan Ancient Town is a temple but not a temple. There is not a single god statue here, not a single incense candle, and the temple has long been turned into a residence. According to legend, it was the former residence of the famous heroine Qin Liangyu in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. In the third year of Chongzhen (1636 AD), Qin Liangyu was ordered to lead his elite troops northward to recover the four cities of Yongping (now Tangshan City) in North China. Emperor Chongzhen summoned Qin Liangyu and five hundred Sichuan monk soldiers on the platform. These monks and soldiers politely declined the emperor's offer of official positions and rewards, and unanimously requested the emperor's permission for monks to marry wives and abstain from eating meat. Emperor Chongzhen generously agreed. After King Qin's meritorious monk soldiers returned to Shizhu, Youyang and other places, they continued to be monks as usual, but from then on they could marry wives and eat meat. They believe in both Buddhism and Taoism, and they also respect Confucianism very much. Therefore, the temple where they are located is called the Three Religions Temple.
