Ganxi's former residence in Nanjing is the largest and best-preserved private residence in Nanjing. It is commonly known as "Ninety-nine and a Half Rooms". Together with the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum and the Ming City Wall, it is also known as the three major landscapes of Nanjing during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Gan Xi was a famous literati in the late Qing Dynasty and wrote many works in his life. The entire building is arranged strictly in accordance with the patriarchal concepts and family system of feudal society, reflecting the cultural taste and ethical concepts of the gentry class in Jinling. The former residence is also the Nanjing Folk Museum and the Nanjing Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum.
