Scenic spot introduction:

Huayuankou of the Yellow River is the starting section of the lower reaches of the Yellow River. It is also the place where the "Huayuankou Burst Incident" that shocked China and foreign countries occurred in history. Huayuankou got its name because a gate was built here to control water in the Song Dynasty and it gradually became a village. It was also named after a garden was built here to form a ferry in the Ming Dynasty. In June 1938, the Japanese invading army approached Zhengzhou. The Kuomintang army collapsed without a fight. They planned to follow the ancient example of using water to replace troops, and opened the Yellow River embankment here, flooding 44 counties in Henan, Anhui and Jiangsu provinces, killing 890,000 people. People were killed and nearly 3.91 million refugees were displaced. Huayuankou became more well-known because of this tragedy.
