Scenic spot introduction:

Shanghai Yu Garden is known as the "urban forest". It is a private garden in the Ming Dynasty and a famous Jiangnan classical garden. It is a must-see tourist attraction for domestic and foreign tourists. It is located in the northeast of the old town of Huangpu District and was built in 1559. The layout of the whole garden has the southern architectural art style of the Ming and Qing dynasties and is well preserved. It has curved bridges, waterside pavilions, pavilions and terraces. The small garden is tortuous and dense; the pavilions are staggered, the mountains and rocks are majestic, and the lake is shimmering. It is known as "the most beautiful in Jiangnan", which fully reflects the architectural and design style of Chinese classical gardens.
At the same time, Yu Garden is one of the "four major cultural markets in China". The brick carvings, stone carvings, clay sculptures and wood carvings scattered in the garden are not only long-standing but also very exquisite. "Immortals", "Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea", "Guanghan Palace", "Guo Ziyi's Birthday", "Plum Wife and Crane Son", "Going to Beijing to Take the Imperial Examination", "Successful Three Prizes in a Row" and other works are of great cultural and ornamental value. Famous Ming Dynasty calligraphers and painters such as Wang Zhideng, Dong Qichang, Wang Shizhen and Mo Shilong once wrote poems and painted in Yu Garden. In the first year of the Xuantong reign (1909), Gao Yong, Yang Yi, Qian Huian, Wu Changshuo and Wang Yiting initiated and organized the "Yu Garden Calligraphy and Painting Charity Association" in Deyue Tower, which became the origin of the Shanghai School of Painting. After years of accumulation, Yu Garden now has a collection of thousands of precious cultural relics such as calligraphy and painting, furniture and ceramics. On the occasion of the 440th anniversary of the founding of Yu Garden in 1999, Comrade Jiang Zemin gladly accepted the invitation to write the inscription "Famous Garden on the Sea" for this famous Jiangnan scenic spot. The inscription stone engraved with Huangshan stone stands inside the gate of Yu Garden, becoming the most beautiful landscape of Yu Garden.
